공부를 한다는 표현을 쓸 때 보통은 'study'라는 단순한 표현을 많이 쓰십니다.

 

 

 

하지만 원어민들은 공부에 관한 다양한 표현들을 쓴답니다.

 

 

 

저희도 원어민처럼 자연스러운 영어를 구사하기 위해 다양한 표현들을 한 번 알아볼까요?

 

 

1. burn the midnight oil

 

 

 

첫 번째로 소개 할 표현은 'burn the midnight oil' 으로,

 

 

 

'밤새 공부/일 했다'라는 뜻입니다.

A: How did you pass the admission test for professional school?

 

 

 

A: 너 어떻게 전문대학원 입학 시험에 합격한거야?

 

 

 

B: You know, I did my best by burning the midnight oil.

 

 

 

B: 알잖아, 밤새 공부하며 내 최선을 다했어.

2. hit the books

 

 

 

다음은 'hit the books'으로

 

 

 

'열심히 공부하다'라는 뜻이랍니다.

A: I think I need someone teaching me.

 

 

 

A: 난 나를 가르쳐줄 사람이 필요한 것 같아.

 

 

 

B: Then I can help you out. Let's hit the books together!

 

 

 

B: 그럼 내가 도와줄게. 같이 열심히 공부하자!

3. cram

 

 

 

마지막 표현은 'cram'입니다.

 

 

 

'쑤셔 넣다'라는 뜻을 가진 단어로,

 

 

 

'벼락치지 하다'라는 표현으로 자주 쓰인답니다

 

 

 

시험 공부 미리미리 할 때보단 벼락치기 할 때가 더 많지 않나요?

 

 

 

그만큼 많이 쓰이는 표현이랍니다.

A: How can we cram for finals? It's overwhelmingly too many to do.

 

 

 

A: 어떻게 기말고사 벼락치기하지? 할 게 진짜 너무 많다.

 

 

 

B: I do agree with that. What a shame that I didn't study anything yet..

 

 

 

B: 나도 그렇게 생각해. 지금까지 아무것도 공부안했는데..

A: It's a trial period already. Time is flying by.

 

 

 

A: 벌써 시험기간이야. 시간이 빠르다.

 

 

 

B: I can't believe it.. Let's just cram for exams.

 

 

 

B: 믿겨지지 않는다. 벼락치기 공부하자.

 

 

 

3-3

 

 

 

A: I can't do my study without putting off the things, so I always do cram every exam.

 

 

 

A: 난 미루지 않고는 공부할 수가 없어서 매 시험마다 벼락치기한다.

 

 

 

B: That's even much better than me. I don't do my study all the time even if it's a trial period.

 

 

 

B: 나보다 훨씬 낫다. 난 시험기간이라 해도 항상 공부 안해.
